International Women’s Day - Elena Constantinou, Logistics Planner (Waste Oil Collection Services)

To help celebrate and recognise this year’s International Women’s Day, we are focusing on a handful of inspirational women from across Slicker Recycling who are a key part of our continued growth and success. Some of these women work within the normally male-dominated transport sector and others hold senior leadership positions within the Executive team.

We’ve sat down with them to ask them more about their roles, their achievements and their tips for other female leaders...

Elena Constantinou

Following our first two Q&As around International Women’s Day, we have Elena Constantinou who like Sharna-Leigh, is a Logistics Planner, but for waste oil collection services.

Can you start by telling us what you do here at Slicker Recycling?

I’ve been at Slicker for over six years based at our Stourport-on-Severn offices. Essentially, my role is to oversee a fleet of 21 waste oil vehicles which are spread across our UK depots. I am responsible for routing them efficiently around our collection points and ensuring those waste oil collections are completed within our set KPI timescales. My role is to also deal with and solve any day-to-day queries that come my way from drivers or customers.

And now onto your achievements. What are you most proud of?

For the first time last year, I hit my KPI target to ensure the collection of one million litres of waste oil. I did this at a time when I had no manager, but I felt I was really recognised for my achievements. It was a big moment for me.

International Women’s Day means different things to different women, but what does it mean to you?

It has grown and grown in importance but I think it’s a day to recognise the significant role that women play in society and in the workplace.

It is also a day to be inspired by women across the world in different industries and from different backgrounds - and all the amazing things they have achieved.

What would be your top tips for a female colleague?

It would be to believe in yourself and never give up.

Being a busy working mum can be challenging at times but it can also be really rewarding, so by having a network of other working mums, both in your professional and personal life, can be a great  support and it makes you realise you’re part of something bigger.

And now for the popular final question, which female inspires you?

My mum. She’s worked hard her whole life and always done her best to provide for her family. She is a real-life superhero!
